Bengaluru: Three people, including two women, were arrested for allegedly kidnapping and assaulting a 30-year-old woman over non-payment of loan interest, police said on Friday. The accused have been identified as Nazath, Reshma Banu and Suhail, they said.
Police said the accused also confined the victim for two days at a house over the loan dispute and threatened her that they would circulate her private video after she was allegedly forced to strip if she failed to pay.
The incident occurred between 27 August and 31 August in the limits of Chandra Layout police station, they added.
According to police, in her complaint, the woman stated that she had borrowed ₹50,000 from Nazath on a weekly repayment arrangement and ₹1 lakh from Reshma Banu about two years ago. She said financial difficulties had prevented her from making recent payments.
The complainant alleged that on 27 August, she was called to Nazath's house on the pretext of some work. After some time, Reshma, her husband Suhail, and two others entered Nazath's house in Metro Layout, assaulted her with a knife and their hands, damaged her mobile phone, and forcibly took her and her young son in an autorickshaw to Kumbalgodu.
She further alleged that she was beaten with a stick, confined in a room and threatened over repayment of an alleged ₹11 lakh, including interest.
The FIR also stated that the complainant was allegedly forced to partially undress and was filmed on a mobile phone, with the accused allegedly threatening to circulate the video if she failed to pay.
The woman also alleged that she was taken to a lawyer near a market and made to sign certain papers before being brought back to Kumbalgodu.
On the pretext of going to the toilet, the victim alerted police. She was subsequently rescued after police reached the house and took her to Chandra Layout Police Station, the FIR said.
Based on her complaint, a case was registered against Nazath, Reshma, Suhail, Saif and others in connection with the incident, a senior police officer said.
Following the investigation, three persons, including the two women, have been arrested in the case, police said, adding that efforts are being made to nab the other suspects who are absconding.
